Samaria Gorge

Overview

Today you will take a day trip to the famous Samaria Gorge, one of the longest gorges in Europe.

Samaria Gorge is situated in the southwestern part of Crete, within the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) National Park. It starts at an altitude of around 1,250 meters at the Omalos Plateau and stretches all the way to the village of Agia Roumeli on the southern coast of Crete.

Samaria Gorge is approximately 16 kilometers long. The trail is well-marked and takes hikers through various terrains, including rocky paths, wooden bridges, and narrow passages.

You will hike through the stunning natural scenery, and you will enjoy a lunch at Agia Roumeli village.

Return to Chania in the evening and rest after the challenging hike.
